Nelson

Nelson Mandela is a big part of history that has affected many people in a positive fashion. In Times Square, where the ball drops at New Years Eve, we are honoring him for his extemely hard work by putting his quotes on the billboards. Many people are working hard to have people reconize his hard work but some people don't believe he'll make it for his 95th birthday. He has recently been hospitalized for a lung infection that can be fatal. We want to make sure that his legacy is know for a long time in the future. Times Square is a very well-known area in the country so a lot of people willknow Nelson Mandela. This connects to class because we previously learned about the very important actions Mandela has performed which is worthy of a world-wide mention. For example, Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years but still came it strong for the people of South Africa, won the Nobel Peace Prize, and was the first black president of South Africa after the end of Apartheid.

Mr. Museveni gives $100,000 in public!

A few weeks ago, President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda handed a sack carrying about $100,000 to a youth group in public, so clearly that many people could see him do it.  At first, people were confused  about why he did it and criticized it.  Actually, the president did this to give money to help the poor people.  He also handed over 15 motorcycles, a minibus, and a truck in the same meeting.  The president shows how responsible the goverment is with their money through this.  Now, Ugandans are used to seeing the president handing out money in public events.  This is connected to class because when we learned about Africa, specifically Ethiopia, many people are poor and do not have safe drinking water.  Many people and their families do not even have their basic food needs.  If they were given this much money, they would have better living conditions, maybe even a better life.

We disagree with the statement that after independence, India should be one united country. With two separate countries based on religion the Muslims will have power in their country, and Hindus will have power in their own country with the independence that the British gave them. Also there will not be any civil wars to get power if they have two separate countries. In the two separate countries both of their governments will be twice as strong than being together because they will agree on more things as part of the same religion.. These are the reasons why India should be a partitioned country.

Lino Oviedo Dies

Recently Lino Oviedo died in a helicopter crash before the Paraguan presidential election. Mr.Oviedo was an army colonel because he gained alot of power when he overthrew General Alfredo Stroessner in 1989. In 1998 Oviedo planned to run for president but was sentenced 10 years in prison for attempting to overthrow President Wamosy. Raul Cubus was elected and ordered Oviedo out of prison early. But Oviedo was arrested again for murdering Vice President Luis Maria Argana in 1999 and was forced to leave Paraguay. In 2004 Mr.Oviedo returned and tried to acomplish his goal of being president and was never arrested again. This event connects to class because both Oviedo and the lower French class overthrew leaders. They did this because they both wanted power.
